In 2018, my partner’s son, Agustín, took his own life at 18 after being harassed and slandered on social media. He was a creative, kind, and unique soul. His death is one of many caused mainly by adults who encouraged children to destroy someone online; and by executives and engineers who deliberately designed these platforms to foster cruelty and division. They saw the damage, they knew the risk, and they let it happen anyway. No matter what they say, they don’t care about us.
It’s up to us to put an end to this madness the internet has become. We must choose which channels we use, and how we connect with the world. No one is going to do it for us.
This album, from Rusty Pilgrim’s side, will be a tribute to Agustín—but my hope is to open a wider call so we can create something real together. Not only to honor him, but to offer a kind of refuge for anyone who feels alone or believes there’s no way out.
Agustín left us with a powerful lesson, he challenged us on every level. It wasn't just a tragedy, it marked a before and after. It sparked efforts to raise awareness about suicide prevention in schools, mental health for everyone, as well as the way public shaming and false accusations are addressed in Argentina.
Music can be transformative, not the endless background playlists they’ve been selling us in recent years, but something real. This album will be a reminder of that.
My partner Silvina (Sons Of The Forest) is dealing with health issues caused by the emotional impact of losing her child and now needs surgery. I know the sales from this album won’t be enough to cover the operation, but they can definitely make our lives a lot easier, especially considering how bad the country’s current economic situation is.
This compilation will be released through Rusty Pilgrim digitally and, hopefully, also in physical format.
